Step #1 Blogs!
March 6, 2008
I don’t think blogs are a bad thing. I’m somewhat concerned when I’m doing a Google search, and some of the top hits are blogs. I think it will be more confusing, soon, to determine if the content is reliable or not. But that’s why we subscribe to all those databases, right??!!
I like that we have a blog for just our Reference staff, but I think we could eventually move that to one patron’s can view too. We could post links to it, promote databases, talk (well, I guess write) about how we found an answer to a stumper-kind of a question, mention what books are on display etc. And it wouldn’t just have to be full-time staff, or only one person posting all the time, since we know all know how to post to a BLOG! Yea!
The hardest part I had with setting up this blog was putting some of the extra features on it. I put a meebo chat box on, but it ended up being too big. Plus, it seemed like I put it right over the blogroll or links I had on the side of the page. With Brandee’s help (of course!), we figured out that Blogroll=Links, and VOILA, they were back. As we all know, it’s more helpful when you use the same word throughout the site.
